“How can you feel your best?” is a question our founder, Justine Monsul, posed that formed the foundation of Monfefo. As this answer is unique to each individual, there’s consistency in the way that our bodies require abundant nutrition to support, protect, and thrive from within. Our mission is deeply sown within our ingredients, as each provide us with the opportunity to not only heal, but also prevent. Our core focus of preventative healing has long been inspired and elevated by the powerful ingredient, turmeric.

The Roots of Turmeric

Turmeric is deeply rooted in ancient cultures, revered as a culinary spice, traditional medicine, and sacred symbol for centuries throughout Asia. With origin in India over 4,500 years ago, turmeric has been central to Ayurvedic Medicine, Hinduism, and Indian culture. Ancient Ayurvedic literature uses over 100 terms for turmeric, including jayani, translating to "one who is victorious over diseases", and matrimanika, translating to "as beautiful as moonlight". The first noted use of turmeric in Ayurveda is as an ointment to relieve food poisoning symptoms, as other historical uses include supporting joint health, purifying blood, promoting digestive health, and strengthening overall energy.

Beyond its medicinal and culinary elements, turmeric is esteemed as a sacred symbol in Hinduism as both the deep orange and bright yellow coloring of the root hold significance within the religion. Hindu rituals include adorning gods with turmeric, blessing brides with turmeric ceremonies, and using the root to celebrate Harvest Festival - all ancient acts that are still practiced today. These communities and traditions have carried ancient wisdom of this root into modern practice.

Preventative Health & Healing

Turmeric is a perennial plant in the ginger family, native to southeastern Asia with variations including Red Hawaiian Turmeric, White Mango Turmeric, Indira Yellow Turmeric, and BKK Turmeric. Each variation is unique in makeup, life cycle, and use based on its atmospheric and cultural environment, but all inspire health and healing from within the body.

Turmeric contains more than 300 naturally occurring components including Beta-carotene, Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Potassium, and Zinc. Each of these vitamins and minerals uniquely support optimal function and disease prevention within the body. The active component of turmeric, curcumin, has been shown to have powerful anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-viral, and anti-microbial properties. Through this bioactive ingredient, turmeric nourishes the body and promotes overall health from the molecular level. This allows for the body to not only heal from illness, but promote wellness.
